Greg and Family, Thinking of you all as I fondly remember the high school years with Steve. I was so sorry to learn of his passing. I have thought of him often over the past week. In many ways it's as if it was just yesterday that he would be making me laugh with that unique wit that he had or have me hanging on for dear life when he was behind the wheel of the car (in the safest of ways of course). He played a mean bass in band and kept us all on track. I trust he's flying down the road now with the tunes playing loudly. Condolences to all of you.

While I only knew Stephen and you Greg as young boys when I was your babysitter in Woodlawn, I have many fond memories of our time together. I remember your Mom always had her wonderful home made strawberry jam for a treat plus Pop Shoppe pop. Once I was there for a weekend and had to cook Kraft dinner. I didn't like it or the smell so one of you boys got me a clothespin for my nose! I'm so sorry for your loss Greg, Lila and Sandy. Big hugs to all who are grieving. Reading through the comments, Greg sounds like he was a remarkable person who loved to laugh. Juanita Sams

My condolences to the whole family. I still think of Steve literally every Good Friday because of his role in that day's service at Bridgewater United Church.

Craig - thanks for your post - hopefully the person Steve was '"filling-in for" in that role, feels kindly about it as well!

Thanks Brent - the crew you were apart of was incredibly important to him. His whole high school life revolved around it. He would be touched that you reached out with a comment.

Incredibly sorry to hear this news. Steve and I were buddies in high-school and played together in the stage and jazz bands. I remember his sense of humour, his love of music and his love of Monty Python. Thinking of you Greg, Lila and Sandy.

I had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time with Steve. We raced bikes together and worked at the Keg together. Steve was just one of those guys full of enthusiasm no matter what he was doing. I loved our conversations when training or working as cooks. He also seemed super interested in what ever you had to say. Steve just made you feel good about yourself. Such an amazing friend. I will really miss him.
Greg MacLean Posted Jul 9, 2025 at 10:42 AM
David - thank you for your beautiful comment. Only a few days prior to his death your name came up in a conversation that took place between Steve, his cousin Tim Crooks and I. He was very proud of you in becoming a veterinarian, which apparently was a lifetime dream of yours.

Steve was a dear friend. I can't express how much his quick wit, intellect, sense of humour and ability make any long drive to a bike race a fun event. My bike never suffered a mechanical issue in a race thanks to Steve, but my sides often hurt from the hours of laughter we had. Steve knew everything about current events, history, politics, geography, you name it. Laurie and Justine are legacies to his spirit and kindness. Sending so much love to the family, and thinking of Steve everyday. Some photos from Steve's cycling friends:

Sarah - Greg MacLean replying - thank you so much for the comment and photos (a couple of which we intend to add to the photo montage at Steve's funeral). The last shot was included in a a stack of photos we kept at Steve's bedside. The day before he died, he still could name everybody in that photo, which was a remarkable feat given his compromised physical and mental state at the time. He must have really loved all you guys.
