PONDS – Calvin William Mason, 77, Ponds, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Orville and Anna (Murdock) Mason. Calvin and his wife, Chris, owned and operated the LBR Gas Bar & Variety, Lower Barney’s River. In his late teens, he attended vocational school and took carpentry. Following he worked in construction, operated bulldozers, backhoes and drove dump trucks. Calvin was a fisherman since a young age, purchasing his first lobster license for 25 cents. During his life, he was happiest operating a dozer, fishing on the ocean, socializing at the LBR and spending time at the cottage with family. He was a member of Albion Lodge No. 5, A.F. & A.M., New Glasgow. Calvin was well known in his community and was often asked for advice from family and friends, which he freely gave. He will be remembered for his friendliness, positivity, and generosity. If asked, Calvin would say, his greatest legacy was “his children” - his nieces and nephews that he loved as his own. Surviving are his wife, Christine (Johnston); brother, Lewis Mason, Merigomish; nieces, Leanne Goodwin (Anthony Daemen), Meadow Green; Wanda (Gordon) DeCoste, Havre Bocher; Carrie Mason (Danny LeBlanc), Abercrombie; Cdr. Bonnie Mason (Dave Kettle), Kanata, Ont.; nephews, Paul Jordan, Ponds; Daniel Jordan, Ponds; David (Rhonda) Mason, Pictou; Orville (JoAnn) Mason, Barney’s River; several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Ora Jordan; sister-in-law, Helen Mason; brother-in-law, Orman “Nonnie” Jordan. In honour of Calvin’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
