Karen Elizabeth Worthen

It is with much sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Karen Elizabeth Worthen, on Sunday, September 1, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer, with her children and companion, James Pace, by her side.

Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Robert Rexton and Corelda Georgina Isabel (Fraser) Clyburn. Mom lived a full and happy life in Pictou Landing with her late husband, Bert, seven children and six stepchildren. She was a longtime member of Women Alike Abreast A River Dragon Boat team, taking home many medals. Mom was a member of TOPS for many years and was very proud when she earned her “KOPS” award.

Mom was “Mama Karen” to a lot of kids, always saying, “there is always room for one more!”

Surviving are her companion, James Pace; children, Georgina (Andrew), Virgina (Darryl), Jim, Michael (Rosealee), Dennis (Bridget), Lillian (Tommy), Bette Ann; step-children, Bobby, Carolann, Debbie (Geroge) and Wanda (Jerry); 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sylvia Green, Nancy (Ray) Webb and Linda MacKay; sisters-in -law, Diane Perry, Betty Clyburn and Gloria Clyburn; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Berton Henry Worthen; granddaughter, Faith in infancy; grandson, Evan Smith; brothers, Gordon in infancy, Bob, Doug, Wayne and Ron; stepsons, Bert and David; “like a son”, Timmy Williamson; sister-in-law, Anita (Feltmate) Clyburn; brothers-in-law, Howard Green and Robin MacKay.

The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 3 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.  Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 4 in Trenton Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Osmel Poso officiating.

“Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray the Lord my soul to keep

His love be with me through the night,

And wake me in the morning light

And if I die before I wake

I pray the Lord my soul to take.”

Lovingly submitted by family.
