Elmer Alexander “Sandy” MacDonald, 92, Linacy, went home to be with his Lord and saviour on March 3, 2026, at Valley View Villa surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in 1933 and raised in Linacy, the eldest of six children, he was a son of the late Clarence Edwin Kent and Margaret Murray (Kirk) MacDonald. Sandy would be proud to tell you, “he was the oldest living person born in Linacy”. Sandy talked about his childhood memories on the family farm, raising foxes, making hay, and working in the woods, fondly and often.
Sandy married Evelyn Jean (Roy) in 1959, together they had five children, raising a family on a foundation of love, faith, and hard work. Sandy and his kid brother Kent “Bubs”, worked together for 40 plus years operating A. & K. Logging Ltd., cutting logs, pulp, firewood and sawmill. Sandy’s love of the outdoors included his passion as a Wild Blueberry farmer, a tradition his family continues.
Later in life, following Evelyn’s passing, Sandy married Elizabeth Louise “Liz” (Chisolm), with whom he shared many happy years. Sandy was a founding member of Bethel Baptist Church in Westville, where he made many lasting friendships. Sandy’s most important title was “Bumpy” to his grandchildren, an honour he cherished. Bumpy loved spending time at his “Camp” on the mountain, four wheeling, hunting, and fishing with his grandchildren. He never missed a chance to watch their hockey games, but nothing beat a weekend brunch at the East Side Family Restaurant together.
Surviving are his children, Murray (Tracey) MacDonald, Little Harbour; Colleen MacDonald, New Glasgow; Clarence (Darlene) MacDonald, Oromocto; Catherine Fraser, Simcoe, Ont.; Cheryl (Robert) Thompson, Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Lindsey MacDonald, Landen MacDonald, Emily MacDonald (Brian), Alex (Jessica) MacDonald, Eddy MacDonald, Dustin Fraser, Cassie Fraser, Jacob Fraser, Henry Thompson, and Zachary Thompson; great-grandchildren, Breeanna and Parker MacFarlane, Leah and Haley MacDonald; sisters, Barbara McDonald, Halifax; Marion MacLaughlin, Sherbrooke; brother, Graham (Karen) MacDonald, Linacy; stepdaughter, Karen Guthro, Trenton; stepsons, Kevin (Linda) MacDonald, Trenton; Michael MacDonald, New Glasgow; Darrell MacDonald, Garden of Eden; sisters-in-law, Erika MacDonald, Linacy; Joan Mason, Waterville; brothers-in-law, Tom Roy, Linacy; Aldie (Irene) Chisolm, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn (Roy) MacDonald; second wife, Elizabeth “Liz” MacDonald; brothers, Kent “Bubs” MacDonald and Murray MacDonald; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” MacDonald, Mary Roy, Louise Roy, Barbara Smith and Freda MacLean; brothers-in-law, Grant “Sonny” McDonald, Frank MacLaughlin, John Roy and Robert MacLean.
