
Obituary of Ronald Joseph MacDonald
Ronald Joseph “Ron” MacDonald, 77, New Glasgow, formerly of Plymouth, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Glasgow on June 2, 1947, he was a son of the late Daniel John and Mary Elizabeth (Chisholm) MacDonald, ninth of their 12 children. Prior to retirement, Ron had been employed as a construction foreman with Nova Scotia Power for many years, a career he greatly enjoyed. Ron enjoyed spending time in nature, hunting, fishing and especially, canoeing. Ronald was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan and enjoyed playing hockey. He took interest in the pursuits of his many nieces and nephews, always supportive. For Ron, “Life has changed, not ended!”
Surviving are his siblings, Delinah MacDonald, Kitchner, Ont.; Larry (Lynn) MacDonald, Westville; Gerald W. MacDonald (Brenda Sofan), New Glasgow; William L. “Bill” (Sheila) MacDonald, New Glasgow; Daniel S. “Dan” (Dawn) MacDonald, Westville; sister-in-law, Beverly MacDonald, Stewiacke; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Jamie) MacKay; Florence (Hugh) Walker, Lauretta (Miller) MacPherson and Mary Donelda “Doddie” (George) Daye; brothers, Malcolm MacDonald and James “Jim” (Clara) MacDonald; brother-in-law, Orlando Da Silva.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2025, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 31 in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow with Father Godwin Kalu presiding. Private interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Thorburn.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Ronald’s memory to Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment.
