Obituary of Christine Fisher

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Christine “Chris” (Evans) Fisher, 76, Merigomish, formerly of Newport, Wales, who passed away at her home, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

Born in Newport, South Wales, UK, she was a daughter of the late Winfred Jane (Hale)  and Ronald George Evans. It was while working at Lovells that she met the love of her life, Joseph Raymond “Ray” Fisher, and together they built a home filled with love, warmth, and cherished memories.

Christine stayed at home for many years to care for and raise her family. On returning to employment, she worked at the local museum, Royal Gwent Hospital and finally at Flamguard. It was here that, after starting work as a typist, she studied to gain her AAT (accountancy) qualifications and rose to the position of senior accountant and was part of the senior management team. This was an achievement that both she and her family were incredibly proud of.

Always known for her strong work ethic and dedication, she did not lose sight of the importance of family, kindness and care. Before she and Ray moved to Canada, Chris devoted herself to caring for her own mother in her final years. Her compassion and unwavering dedication were a testament to her kind and selfless nature, always putting family first. This deep sense of love and responsibility remained a guiding force throughout her life.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol Fisher, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England; sons, Martin (Victoria) Fisher, Truro; Steven (Tanya) Fisher, Newport, South Wales; grandchildren, Cerys, Owain, James, Alex, Emily, Olivia and Sophie; sisters-in-law, Jean Godfrey, Llantarnam, Wales; Elaine (Geoff) Bennett, Little Mill, Usk, Wales; brothers-in-law, John (Helen) Fisher and Garry (Barbara) Fisher, Sebastapol, Wales; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Joseph Raymond Fisher, she was predeceased by her parents, Winfred Jane (Hale) and Ronald George Evans; father and mother-in-law, John Young Thoms and Violet Louvain (Pritchard) Fisher and siblings, Eileen Reardon, Ronald and Brian Evans.

In honour of Christine’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.

Donations may be made in memory of Christine to Heart Research Wales or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Lovingly submitted by family.
