Obituary of Anita Marilyn Murray

Anita Marilyn Murray, 78, Pinetree, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family.

Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Archibald Dan “Archie” and Margaret Lillian (Lewis) MacDonald. Anita was a valued employee of Lawton’s Drugs for 47 years. She enjoyed playing cards, especially, 45’s every second week with special friends, Anna Lakenman, Nina MacDonald and Jerome MacKinnon.  Anita looked forward to her yearly Stephenville, N.L., trips to visit Peter and Claire Thibeau. She and her husband, Ernie, hosted family gatherings where food, stories, laughter and music were in abundance. Anita was lovingly referred to as “Betty Crocker” by her family and friends, as every special occasion was marked with her baked goodies made with love. She will be forever remembered by her insatiable sense of humour, which was ever present. Although she never had children of her own, she became “mom” to her nieces and nephews after the passing of her sisters. Her maternal instincts and genuine love were unwavering. Anita enriched the lives of many. Although saddened at her passing, her family are comforted that Antia is now safe in the company of those who have gone before.

Surviving are her husband, Ernest Chisholm “Ernie” Murray, Pinetree; sister, Valerie (Sam) Anderson, Little Harbour; sister-in law, Audrey Hodder, New Glasgow; brothers-in-law, John Currie, Hopewell; John (Frances) Murray, Pine Tree; Donelda Stewart, Stellarton; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Karen Currie, Rita Fanning and Margaret “Peggy” MacDonald; brothers, John Eddy MacDonald and Joseph Patrick “Chow” MacDonald; several nephews; sisters-in-law, Huguette MacDonald, Julie Murray and Edna Stewart; brothers-in-law, Angus MacDonald, Clarence Stewart, Charles “Charlie” Murray, and Herbert Hodder.

The family will receive visitors 10-10:50 a.m. Saturday, April 12 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.  Interment will be in Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour.
