Obituary of Janel Elizabeth Gero

 

Janel Elizabeth Gero, wife of the late Norman Currie “Bub” Gero, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 24, 2025, at home, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

 

Born on June 14, 1952, in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Judge Welsford Gordon and Elizabeth Florence “Betty” (Woods) Phillips.  She attended the former New Glasgow High School and was a 1973 graduate of St. Mary’s University, Halifax. The same year, marrying the love of her life, Bub Gero and together they shared 35 wonderful years until his sudden death in 2009.  Prior to her recent retirement, she was employed with Amtek Limited and prior, C.E. McCarthy Ltd.

 

Surviving are her cherished brothers, Douglas Burgess (Cristal Schofield), Little Harbour; Peter (Linda) Phillips, Bridgewater;  much loved sisters-in-law, Barbara Agadzie, Ajax, Ont.; Faye Gero, Scarborough, Ont.; Norma Gero, Scarborough; Laurena Parris, Toronto, Ont.; best friend and chosen sister, Debbie Barron, New Glasgow; treasured nieces and nephews, Greg Burgess (Cathy Ashley), Kenny Burgess (Cindy-Lou Freeman), Angela (Gerard) Burke, Mark (Jennifer) Phillips, George Agadzi, Charity Agadzi, Prince Morris, Jennifer Akins, Lena Cromwell-Gero and Kimberly Parris; many wonderful great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bub; mother-in-law, Esther Laurena Gero; father-in-law, Norman Joseph Gero; sisters-in-law, Stephanie Phillips and Verna Burgess.

 

In keeping with Janel’s wishes her family will celebrate her life privately.

 

Janel and her family wish to thank all the Doctors, Nurses, Medical Professionals, special friends and neighbours who helped her so much throughout her journey with Cancer.  Janel often said, “I am very blessed”. She was very appreciative of every kindness received.
