Obituary of Thomas Robert Linthorne
Thomas ‘Tom’ Robert Linthorne, 83, Stellarton, passed away peacefully, Sunday May 4, 2025, at home surrounded by the love of his family, in the arms of his daughter.
Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Gloria Linthorne (Hayman). Love of his life, mother of his children, pen to his hand, companion and when needed, in those final weeks especially, his nurse. Proud father to his daughters, Heather (Michael) Bates, Samantha Lynn Goodwin, and his sons, Robert (Viola Pearl) Linthorne, AB, Jon-Thomas (Chrissy) Linthorne, Walter (Janine) Linthorne, James (Mallorie) Linthorne, AB, Bill (Ashlyn) Linthorne, ON . Beloved brother to Audry (David) Hayman. Cherish Papa to many grand-children and great-grandchildren. Cherished friend to many of Bill. W.
Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by many other relatives.
Born September 27th, 1941, to George and Nora Linthorne, early on in his life he was a fan of boxing and passed this love down to his sons and grandsons. Tom was an avid supporter of Pictou County boxing events, especially in his later years watching his sons and grandsons in the ring.
Tom started his hand in business in opening Linthorne Upholstery, in 1968, which became a mainstay in the Stellarton Business Community. To Tom upholstery wasn’t just a job, it was his hobby, and his craft, “The shop” as it was known by all who loved him, was not only his place of business but a sanctuary for many, a place to have a chat and a coffee, a place for well-placed advice and guidance while Tom worked. “Papa’s office” was the place to learn to make buttons, grab a piece of gum, or just one more hug.
Although there are many triumphs and successes that Tom experienced throughout his 83 years, his pride and joy was his family. From family dinners, Remembrance Day, and ‘Stellarton Homecoming’ pancake breakfasts, he routed his family in traditions and handed down the importance of making memories with one and other. He could often be found at end of the kitchen table looking out the window and watching the kids enjoying the yard he took much pride in keeping maintained and beautiful, the yard that is filled with meaningful flowers and trees that his family will enjoy for decades to come. Including “the tree” (transplanted in the family yard over 40 years ago), that on December 1st at dusk, you would find him surrounded by his family to light in his honor and celebrate the holidays
Tom always led by example, stuck to his beliefs, was true to his word, always lent a helping hand, and was there to listen to the many friends, family and sometimes even strangers who needed it over the years.
Family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 23 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jon Linthorne officiating.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, family flowers only and donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Lovingly submitted by family.
