Obituary of William Boyd MacDonald

 

William Boyd MacDonald, 67, Garden of Eden, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

 

Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Alexander Lloyd and Margaret Elizabeth (Dickie) MacDonald. Boyd was a Red Seal Millwright, having been employed with Michelin Tire, Granton for 35 years. Following he drove a school bus for the Chignecto Central Regional School Board for several years. He was a member of Blair Presbyterian Church, Garden of Eden. Boyd was an avid reader and enjoyed working in the barn and driving his 1953 Massey Ferguson 35 tractor. He loved spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren and family. Boyd enjoyed farming his blueberry fields and bee keeping. He will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and “Boydisms”. Boyd was an active and dedicated community member, serving with the Garden of Eden and Pioneer cemeteries, Blair Presbyterian Church, Garden of Eden Community Hall, MacDonald Cairn, Garden of Eden ballfield, and various recreation programs. He enjoyed coaching the Eden Laker’s softball team in the summer and his children’s hockey teams in the winter. Boyd enjoyed attending auctions and yard sales, especially the 40- and 50-mile yard sales.  Above all Boyd was a loyal, reliable, hard-working gentleman who leaves an enduring legacy for his family to follow.

 

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Jacqueline “Jackie” (Taylor) MacDonald; daughter, Michelle (Mark) Schooten; Brad (Jane) MacDonald; Danny MacDonald; Chris (Ashley) MacDonald; grandchildren, Karsten, Corbin, Hannah, Clara, Colton, Andy, Ben, Hailey, Nolan and Zoey; sisters, Catherine (Robert) Schella, Sydney River; Mary Helen (Gary) Connors, MacLellan’s Brook; brothers, Dickie (Sandra) MacDonald, Yarmouth; Gordie (Anne) MacDonald, Blue Mountain; sisters-in-law, Margaret Rhyno, Eden Lake; Katherine “Kaye” MacDonald, Garden of Eden; many nieces and nephews as well many grand nieces and nephews and one great grand niece.

 

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Ian and Doug; niece, Amber; grandnephews, James and Jordan.

 

The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 11 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 12 in  the chapel with Rev. Michael Crichton officiating. In keeping with Boyd’s wishes, his grandchildren will be his pallbearers and his nieces and nephews, honorary pallbearers.

 

Donations may be made in Boyd’s memory to Blair Presbyterian Church or Garden of Eden Cemetery.
