
Obituary of Elda Helen MacDonald
Elda Helen “La La” MacDonald, 75, Frasers Mountain, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late James Cecil and Helen Elizabeth (Sutherland) Sangster. Elda was employed in food service at Dr. W. A. MacLeod Consolidated School, Riverton. She faithfully served with the Linacy Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Elda enjoyed doing “suppers” with her friends and was always up for going for a tea. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Elda leaves a rich legacy of faithfulness, diligence, commitment and selflessness.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, J. Eldon MacDonald; daughter, Jacqueline MacDonald, Linacy; sons, Mark (Michele) MacDonald, Linacy; Paul (Kathleen) MacDonald, Calgary, Alta.; grandchildren, Jessica (Ben), Brady (Marley), Katie (Justin), Sara (Nathan) and Caileag; great-grandson Thomas; sisters, Linda (Bill) Crook, Broadway; Clare Jean Blakney, Central West River; brothers-in-law, Dennis MacDonald, Port Hawkesbury; Hillard (Corinne) MacDonald, New Glasgow; Carmen (Corrine) MacDonald, Little Harbour; Lewis (Mary) MacDonald, Linacy; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, William “Bill” Sangster; father and mother-in-law, Lauchie and Gertie MacDonald; sister-in-law, Susan “Susie” Sangster; brothers-in-law, Dave Blakney and Al Fougere.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2 in the chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating.
Donations may be made in Elda’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
