Obituary of Darrell Lloyd Buell

Darrell Lloyd Buell, 65, Stellarton, passed away on July 11, 2025, at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Lloyd George and Margaret Jessie (Brimicombe) Buell.

Darrell is survived by his children, Johnathan Buell, Calgary, Alta.; daughter, Renée Buell, MacLellan’s Brook; their brother, Kass (Sarah) MacInnis, New Glasgow; and the mother of his children, Susan (Dale) MacInnis, Pictou; grandchildren, Raya, Max, Awna, and Luke; great-granddaughter, Alaya; sisters, Lee (Charles) Keough, New Glasgow; Gail (Michael) MacKenzie, Abercrombie; Carol (Dave) Watling, Elgin; Janice (Jamie) O’Brien, Westville; Dawn Buell (Lee Fraser), Hopewell; brothers, Brian, Westville; Kenny, New Glasgow; David (Margie), Springhill Junction; brother-in-law, Bill MacKenzie, Westville; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his sister, Dale Baudoux; brother, George Wayne Buell; sister, Lynn MacKenzie; brother-in-law, George Baudoux. He is also fondly remembered for his two beloved sidekicks, Winnie and Ralph.

Dad had a love for a good ol’ John Prine tune and was known for his passion for tinkering — whether it was rebuilding a truck or working on one of his many cherished collections. If you needed it, Dad had it — and you were welcome to it (with the exception of his beloved antiques). He enjoyed spending time at the camp, fishing, and hunting. He had a knack for telling jokes and was renowned for his wit and quick comebacks. Dad’s door was always open, the teapot always brewing, and he was always ready to open his heart and home to anyone in need.

The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home in New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 with Pastor Jeff MacDougall officiating. Interment will follow at Abercrombie Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Darrell’s memory to his family.
