Obituary of William Arthur Coady

With great sadness, we announce the passing of William Arthur Coady, 89, of New Glasgow. William successfully arrived in the arms of his Lord and Savior on July 12th after a brave 4 year long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

The second eldest of 16 siblings, Will grew up during the depression.  Born during a house party, directly across the street from an accessible hospital, he made it his mission to have a better life and did he!

An honored Veteran, William served in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment. He received medals for Best Medical Unit in the British Army of the Rhine, the Saint John Ambulance Medal, the Germany NATO Medal, and was fiercely proud to receive his Parachute Wings on his 18th Birthday.   A featherweight boxer, Will would never start a fight, but he would quickly end it.  Fear was merely a feeling and moving forward was a necessity.

Will was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved to bring family and friends on his boat and was particularly fond of fishing in Goldboro. Especially with his favored nephew Leslie Michaud, Herb Paris and brother Gary. He always kept a vegetable garden and shared his produce with neighbours, friends, and even the local deer both from his home or in later years Riverton Seniors Manor. He was a social butterfly who flirted with the ladies on far too many occasions.

William will be deeply missed by his children Paul Coady, Westville; Wendy (Jim) Liptrot, Colby Village; sisters, Elsie MacDonald (Jerry Jamieson and Kelvin MacDonald), Westville; Mary (Johnny) MacDonald, Priestville; Helen (Jackie) Chapman,Trenton; Marcella “Nan" MacDonald, MacLellan’s Brook; Corrine Brow, MacLellan’s Brook; Pearl (Raymond) Priest, Trenton; brothers, Gary (Doreen) Coady, Westville;  Tommy (Louise) Coady, favored daughter-in-law and trusted friend, Velvet Coady (Ranny), Priestville; sisters-in-law, Sheila and Cathy; granddaughters, Molly Sicheri (Jacob), Montreal; Anna, and Ashley, Stellarton, their mother, Amanda McNeil (Johannes); adored great-granddaughter, Nevaeh; step grandaughters, Sarah (Joel Lucas) and Jaime; step grandson, Taylor (Jessica Smith);  step grandchildren, Nichole, Kaydence, Kylee, Hayden Shamus and Logan; 57 nieces and nephews;  his friends, true to the end, Doug Hingley and Herb Paris.

He was predeceased by parents, John Joseph “Jack” Coady and Edith May (Stallard) Coady; his beloved wife of 46 years, Audrey Pauline (Crooks) Coady; his very best friend, Pauline Hayman; sister, Margaret “Mickey” (Delbert) Michaud; brothers, John “Peewee” (Marina) Coady, Donald “Ranny” Coady, Robert Coady (Debbie), George Coady, Ross Coady, and James Coady in infancy; nieces, Roseanne and Cathy Jamieson; brothers-in-law, Gerry Jamieson and Kevin MacDonald.

The family would like to thank his sister, Helen Chapman for her companionship, love and care these past years and to Donna Pye and Gerard Hafyard, his favored caretakers at Glen Haven Manor, and sister-in-law, Doreen Coady for her friendship and support when needed most.

A hero in life and after death, his remains have been donated to Dalhousie Medical Research for their continued study on Lewy Body Dementia.  There will be no funeral service or visitation.  A memorial will be announced at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation or to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit.

Lovingly submitted  by family.
