Obituary of Frances Margaret Dorrington

It is with deep sorrow and love that the family of Frances Margaret Dorrington of New Glasgow age 93, announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born April 7, 1932, in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Wilburn and Evelyn (Whalen) Wyse. Compassion, love, humility and family spoke to the core values that Frances represented as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Frances was employed in Customer Service for many years with the former Woolworths, Peoples Jewellers and Crescent Jewellers in New Glasgow. As a woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow where she served as a Sunday school teacher, on the finance committee and as a member of the choir.

Frances was creative and expressed her creativity through various mediums like baking, crocheting, knitting, and quilting. She was avid in introducing and teaching quilting to others and was a founding member of the Vale Quilters.  This quilting circle focuses on the African Nova Scotian quilt-making traditions that explored the historical quilt patterns associated with the Underground Railroad and the secret experiences shared during the quilting process.

Surviving are her daughters, Adriane, Washington, D.C.; Jocelyn, New Glasgow; Cassandra, Toronto, Ont.; and Cynthia (Wayne Hodgson), Halifax; sons, Dwight (Mayple), Brampton Ont.; Lyndon (Kathleen), Langley, B.C.; grandchildren, Nicole, Justin, Jhordan, and Nicholas; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gwendolyn, Marlene, Velma (Rayfield) and Joanne; brothers, Wendell (Lois), Basil (Beverley), Brian and Bruce; many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Francis Joseph Dorrington; son-in-law, Vannie Taylor III; sister-in-law, Sylvia; brother-in-laws Ron Atkinson, Thomas Dorrington and Thurman Jewell.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Pastor Clara Jordan officiating.  Private interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Frances Dorrington to Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow or Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Fund.
