Obituary of Maurice Anderson
Merlin Maurice Anderson, 71, Pictou Landing, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his family by his side.
Born in New Glasgow, a son of the late Merlin Edward and Vivian Ella (Sartoris) Anderson. Maurice was an automotive insurance appraiser, who owned and operated Canavan’s Central Appraisals Ltd., Pictou County Berry Ltd., and maintained ownership in many companies throughout the years. Best described by his friends family as a “daylight to night kind of guy”. He worked hard and played hard – enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, boating and going to the camp on the mountain, his happy place and was always there to help family and friends. Maurice will be remembered as a visionary, great and honourable man.
Surviving are his special person, Joan MacNeil, Windsor; son, Brett (Hazyl) Anderson, Green’s Point; sisters, Sandra (Ron) Mosher, Trenton; Lynn (Perry) Bezanson, Stellarton; brother, Sam (Valerie) Anderson, Kings Head; several nieces and nephews; many cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Colleen Mae Dowding; several aunts and uncles.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, August 31st in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 1st, in the chapel with Rev. Albert Galbraith officiating. Interment will be in MacLellan’s Mountain Cemetery.
The Anderson family wish to thank the physicians, nurses and staff of the Aberdeen Hospital 2nd and 4th floors for the wonderful care Maurice received.
