Obituary of Mason Frederick MacEwan

It is with tremendous sadness that we share the sudden passing of Mason Frederick MacEwan at the age of 18, as a result of a tragic motor vehicle accident in Pictou County on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Mason was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin. Mason loved his family and friends with his whole heart. Everything Mason did always put his family first. He was kind-hearted and cared deeply about his family and friends.

Growing up, Mason loved time spent riding dirt bikes with his Dad, fishing, playing video games, family adventures, camping, 4 wheeling, and arcades. He enjoyed spending time at their trailer at Cranberry Campground and seeing his four-legged companion, Lucy play in the rocks and water. Mason enjoyed playing hockey throughout his youth and he was a proud player as he and his U-18 teammates captured four banners in the 2022-2023 season. However, he was in his glory as a part of his community and a volunteer member of the Abercrombie Volunteer Fire department for the past three years. For those that knew Mason, cars had recently become a passion of his, saving his money to purchase his first car. He loved his car and the new found freedom that came with it. He graduated from North Nova Education Centre in June 2025 and had just started his studies at NSCC Stellarton in Automotive Service and Repair to pursue his career.

Mason is survived by his parents Fred and Sherri (MacDonald) MacEwan and his devoted sister Emma of New Glasgow. He will be lovingly remembered by his maternal grandparents, Susan (Coolen) and Todd Hennigar, Chester Basin; his uncles, Jeff (Emily) MacDonald, Fall River; Devon Hennigar, Hubbards, Cale (Hannah) Hennigar, Hirtle Cove; Jamie (Jennifer) MacEwan, Burlington, ON; his aunts, Margie MacEwan, Bridgeville; Penny MacEwan, New Glasgow; Susan Dunlop, New Glasgow; his cousins, Courtney, Kirsten, Dustin, Jake, Matthew, Daniel, Caitlin, Rebecca, Megan, Gracie, James, Allie, Riley, Kate, Avery, Charlotte and Parker.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, George MacDonald; paternal grandparents, Frederick and Marilyn (Mason) MacEwan and uncle, Greg Campbell.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the first responders who assisted at the collision scene.

The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 12 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.  Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 13 in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. A reception will be held at the Abercrombie Volunteer Fire Department following the service.

As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations in Mason’s memory may be made to the Abercrombie Volunteer Fire Department.

Mason was loved immensely. We will forever carry the sound of his laugh, his stories, the warmth of his heart and cherish our shared memories as his legacy will continue to live in our hearts always and forever.

Lovingly submitted by family.
