Obituary of John Eric Cross
John Eric “Ian” Cross, 80, Little Harbour, passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Oxford, England, he was the son of the late Eric Arthur and Florence Christine (Siperius) Cross. A trained artifact conservator, Ian emigrated to Canada in 1976 to work for the Government of Canada.
He met his wife, Pam, in Ottawa where their sons, James and Eric were born. In 1989, they moved to Nova Scotia where they welcomed their third son, Arthur. Ian became the lead conservator for the new Nova Scotia Museum of Industry in Stellarton. Following, he assumed a similar position with a group that specialized in shipwreck recoveries of ancient artifacts off the coast of Cape Breton and mainland Nova Scotia.
Ian loved to learn and at his passing was enrolled in an online university course. He was passionate about animals, farming and fishing. He was always grateful for being able to realize his dream of being a farmer, which he fulfilled during his years living in Moose River.
Ian’s greatest love was his three sons, who brought him great joy. He possessed a strong faith in his Lord and is now at rest in his eternal home.
Surviving are his sons, James (Danielle MacInnis) Cross, New Glasgow; Eric Cross and Arthur Cross, Hillside; former wife, Pamela Cross (Lorne McLean), Hillside; sister, Margaret (Philip) Lawrence; niece, Penelope (Simon) Foulds; nephew, Peter Lawrence; great-nephew’s, Jamie Foulds and Daniel Foulds, all of England.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his uncle, William Siperius.
The family will receive visitors 1 – 1:50 p.m. Saturday, September 27 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Reception to follow at Shaun’s Place, 135 Provost St, New Glasgow.
