Obituary of Gary Richard Ward
Gary Richard Ward, 79, Maritime Odd Fellows Home, Pictou, formerly of Little Harbour, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 26, 2025, in the Home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Harold and Bernice (Patterson) Ward. Gary was a draftsman, having been employed with the former Trenton Works for many years. He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, going to the camp for fishing, and hunting adventures and working outside in his yard. Gary loved working in his garden and sharing his harvest with friends and family. He was an all-around handyman and was always willing to use his skills to help others. Gary loved his family. He was very proud of both his children and loved to brag about his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for his excellent sense of humour, his traveling tickle trunk of dress up clothes and his ability to carry-on. He enjoyed being the center of the party telling silly jokes, making up songs and speaking in different accents, all with the intention to make others laugh and smile. As much as he enjoyed giving a laugh, he enjoyed having a laugh and you could hear his boisterous bellow and clap of his hands when he did, with a twinkle in the eye and a grin on his face.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl (Brimicombe) Ward, Maritime Odd Fellows Home; daughter, Stacey Ward (Guy Musseau), Elmsdale; son, Richard Ward (Susanna Cheng), Sydney, Australia; grandchildren, Tanner and Jaidan Musseau, Elmsdale; sisters, Marsha (Vernon) Slaunwhite, Halifax; Judy Dunn, Halifax; brother, James (Donna) Ward, Sackville; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give its most sincere thanks to all the wonderful staff at the Oddfellows Nursing Home in Pictou. The staff’s dedication and support for Gary was unmatched and appreciated beyond words.
The family will receive visitors 10 – 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, September 30 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour.
