Obituary of Grace Elizabeth MacDougall

Grace Elizabeth “Betty” MacDougall, 88, The Willow, New Glasgow, formerly of Blue Mountain, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, with her daughter by her side.

Betty was the daughter of the late Finlay Arthur and Elizabeth Mary (Fraser) Blair. A graduate of East Pictou Rural High School and the Normal College in Truro, Betty was fortunate enough to spend 40 years doing something she loved. She retired from Thorburn Consolidated School in June 1996. Besides teaching, her greatest joys in life were her family and friends. She loved gathering people around her and, when alone, talking on the phone. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Ann MacDougall (David Whitehouse); granddaughters, Madeline and Margaret; sister-in-law, Mary Fraser, St. Catharines, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her father and mother-in-law, Charles and Margaret MacDougall; her husband of 34 years, Donald MacDougall; sisters, Jane Horton, Mary Greene, and Margaret Gillis; brother, Duncan Greene; sisters-in-law, Ann MacDougall, Nellie Greene; Isabel Wilson, and Sharon MacDougall; brothers-in-law, Robert Gillis, George Greene; Douglas Wilson, Arthur MacDougall, Bill Horton, and William Fraser.

The family will receive visitors 2-2:50 p.m. Saturday, October 4 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating, followed by a reception.  Private interment will be in Blue Mountain Cemetery.

Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Blue Mountain Cemetery or Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Fund.
