Obituary of Debra Lee Leigh
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debra Lee Leigh (Morrison), who left us peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 21, 1957, Debbie was the beloved daughter of Sheila Morrison, Westville (formerly Pictou) and Donald “Bud” Morrison Truro (formerly Moncton). She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Robert and Catherine Morrison of St. Peter’s, her maternal grandparents Harold and Jane White of Stellarton, and her former husband Walter Robert Leigh “Bobby”.
Debbie leaves behind her cherished daughter Erin Leigh (John Rosborough), and the absolute joy of her life, her grandson Maxwell Rosborough. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Cathy Morrison (Matthew Knowles) and Donna Williamson, her nephews Nick Morrison, River Williamson, and Rowan Williamson, and her niece Lexie Williamson. She also leaves behind her lifelong friend Dave MacLean, who had been her friend since elementary school. In recent years, as Debbie faced one of the hardest chapters of her life, Dave welcomed her into his home and gave her comfort, laughter, and unwavering friendship.
Debbie grew up in Stellarton and later made her home in Halifax, St. Peter’s, and finally returned to her roots in Pictou County. A creative soul, she was a talented artist who preferred to keep her work close to her heart, sharing pieces only with those she loved.
She was known for her sharp wit and her sarcastic sense of humour, which left an impression on everyone she met. Debbie had a way of saying exactly what she thought, often with a bite of unfiltered honesty that those who knew her best came to love (and occasionally brace themselves for).
Debbie also had a passion for style, with a special love for clothes, purses, and shoes, always adding her own flair wherever she went. She firmly believed you could never have too many pairs of shoes, though her closets may have disagreed.
Her career reflected her dedication to helping others, working with the Continuing Care Association of Nova Scotia, the Dr. Kingston Memorial Community Health Centre, and most recently, with Earth Angels Home Care. She was passionate about mental health and addictions education and never shied away from deep, meaningful conversations about life’s challenges and mysteries.
Debbie was spiritual, curious, and thoughtful in her own unique way. She loved yoga, meaningful talks, and connecting with people on a level that went far beyond the surface.
She is now at peace, reunited with her beloved golden lab, Charleigh, who brought her so much comfort and companionship.
The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care team at the Aberdeen Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and support during Debbie’s final journey.
A celebration of life will will be held 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday, October 18 at Shaun's Place, New Glasgow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pictou County SPCA.
Debbie leaves us with a closet full of shoes and a lifetime of treasured moments we’ll never forget.
Lovingly submitted by family.
