Baby sister,
We didn’t have a lifetime of closeness.
Our paths strayed, years passed in silence.
But in the last stretch, something softened—
phone calls, a surprise visit, and a moment that still brings smiles.
You were in the hospital, visiting with Kelly.
Unannounced, Alan and I walked into your room, discussing the painting of it—
plotting to throw a tarp over you while we did it.
In that moment, laughter filled the space where distance used to live.
It wasn’t perfect, but it was real. And I’m grateful.
You carried your own strength, your own story.
And even from afar, you reminded me
that love can return—quietly, unexpectedly,
like a smile in that hospital room.
I honor you now not for what was missing,
but for what we managed to share.
Thank you for that gift.
Mick
