Obituary of Maureen Wilkinson
Joan Maureen Wilkinson, 75, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Broadway, passed away peacefully, Sunday, November 16, 2025, in the Villa, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Theresa Mildred (MacPherson) Jardine and Robert Henry Leahy. Upon completion of high school, Maureen studied and received her Licensed Practical Nurse designation, specializing in private duty care throughout her career. In her teens, Maureen was a member of the Trenton Scotian Softball team for which she was inducted into the Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame. Her family fondly recall being told by friend that Maureen was an exceptional figure skater, a sport she enjoyed and taught. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Above all, Maureen put her family first. A loving wife, mother and grandmother who selflessly gave of herself. For Maureen, “Life has changed; not ended!”
Surviving are her husband, Frank Wilkinson, Westville; daughter, Jill Wilkinson, Edmonton, Alta.; sons, Mark Wilkinson, Halifax; David Wilkinson, Broadway; Frank Wilkinson, Edmonton; grandchildren, Evan, Abbey and Broc; several nieces and nephews; best friend, Shirley Dewtie, MacLellan’s Brook.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her identical twin sister, Kathleen in infancy; sister, Susan Henderson; brother, Cyril.
The family will receive visitors 2-2:50 p.m. Thursday, November 20 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Father Peter J. MacDonald presiding.
The Wilkinson family wish to thank the Valley View Villa staff for the wonderful care received.
