Obituary of Tom Atwell
W. Thomas “Tom” “Slick” Atwell, 47, Linacy, passed away, Monday, November 17, 2025, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Bill Bowden and Sally Atwell. Tom was very hard-working man; everyone could rely on. He brought smiles and laughs to any room he entered. His quick wit and humour kept everyone on their toes. Tom was the ideal son any mother would want and the father every child deserves. He was a very proud Papa of “Drewsome”, “Peanut” and “Squigilly-Hair” and his children who were all his whole world. Tom always believed there was no better feeling then feeling the wind while speeding on his Sled with no care in the world. His 4 favourite sayings were “Life is Short”, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff”, “It is What It is” and “Don’t Second Guess Yourself”. Family was his main priority, he was a devoted and loving husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and most importantly father and grandfather.
Besides his parents, surviving are his wife of 16 years and love of his life for 27 years, Sandi Nicole (Lumsden) Atwell, New Glasgow; daughter, Kennedi Nicole Atwell (Matthew Munroe), Merigomish; son, Christopher Tyson Atwell (Haley Bernard), Pictou Landing; chosen daughter, Kennedy Arsenault, Trenton; grandchildren, Drew Francis, Claire Atwell and Orion Atwell; brother, Bill Bowden (Lezah Acibar), New Glasgow; niece, Alana; nephew, Amari; grandmother, Daisy Mae MacLean; fathers-in-law, Everett Smith and Sandy (Jeanie) Lumsden; sister-in-law, Susan McIntyre, Sylvester; brothers-in-law, Lee (Donna) McIntyer and Christopher “Sexy Pants” Lumsden New Glasgow; Michael (Katie) Lumsden, Trenton, Ont, many other extended family.
