Obituary of John Campbell Sutherland
John Campbell Sutherland, 77, New Glasgow, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025, in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow on September 25, 1948, John was a son of the late Lester Gunn and Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) Sutherland.
John grew up on the west side of New Glasgow. He went on to attend the Nova Scotia Land Survey Institute, becoming a land surveyor for over 50 years until he reluctantly retired in 2023. John was an avid hunter in his younger years and fisherman throughout his life, enjoying nothing more than a day spent in his secret spots along various rivers around the province.
John loved spending time with his family. His daughters remember fondly the annual summer camping road trips, endless walks through the woods of Pictou County and bonfires on the beach. In recent years, John embraced the role of Gramps spending time with his grandchildren in Calgary and at home.
Surviving are his daughters, Janet (John David) Corsten, Calgary, Alta.; Heather (David) Hetherington, Little Harbour; grandchildren, Elena, James, Mitchell, Maisy and Sophie; sister, Kathleen George, Moncton, N.B.; nieces and nephews, Donald (Terri), Carolyn, Nicole and Bryan.
