Obituary of Doug Urquhart

Douglas Grant “Doug” Urquhart, 84, Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home, Trenton, formerly of Linacy, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Born in Telford, he was a son of the late Fraser Neil and Anna Catherine (Fraser) Urquhart.  Doug was employed with the Chignecto Regional School Board as a school bus driver and custodian at Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School for many years. Following, he was employed as a welder with Marinus Verhagen Enterprises Ltd until retirement. Doug loved his tools, his cars and the joy of tinkering and fixing things. He believed that almost anything could be fixed or at the very least, improved. He was kind to a fault, always willing to help others, no matter what the cost. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be dearly missed by those he loved.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Karen Elizabeth (Blackwood) Urquhart, Westville; daughters, Sheri (Heath) Hall, Seneca, S.C.; Alaine (Russell) Halliday, Churchville; Heather Urquhart (Laurie), Seafoam; grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Rorrison, Ryan Halliday (Ashley), Chase (Heather) Urquhart and James Baker; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Asher, Ava, Leah, Anna, Sadie and Sophie; brother, David (Mary) Urquhart, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Sarah Urquhart, Edmonton, Alta.; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, James Edward “Ed” Urquhart and Robert “Bobby” Urquhart.

The family will receive visitors 10-10:50 a.m. Friday, December 19 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Spring interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow in the Churchvill Community Hall.

Donations may be made in memory of Doug to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Fund.

Doug’s family wish to thank the Ivey’s Terrace staff for their excellent care and kindness shown during his stay.
