Obituary of Dr. Soumini Kaiprath

Om Namah Sivaya. Known for her gracious smile and gentle heart, Dr. Soumini Kaiprath passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Born in Kerala, India, she moved to Canada in 1985, shortly after finishing medical residency. She leaves a legacy of over 40 years of medical practice, having worked for 22 years in Pictou County as a Family Physician. She will be remembered by her loving husband Sundara Raj, her three children Govind, Anand, Sunethra, and extended family.

She will be missed by close friends, colleagues, staff, patients and the community of Pictou County, whom she served and dedicated herself to until the very end of her life. Her passion was to help heal people together with her husband. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to all her medical staff and dialysis teams for their care and compassion. Much thanks and love towards the dedication and care of Colchester East Hants Hospital, Palliative Floor, where she passed.  

We extend a warm invitation to a public visitation, 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 8 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral  Home, New Glasgow. Due to her sudden passing she never got to say her goodbyes to many, especially her patients who were in her thoughts until the very end. It is an honour for her family to give this opportunity to share the love for her. 

She was a woman of great spirituality and loved to visit temples when she could during her free time along with her family. She is a devotee of spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. She lived her life according to a phrase commonly said by Amma and a favorite of hers, ‘Om Lokah Samastah Sukinho Bhavantu’, which translates to ‘May All Beings Everywhere Be Happy and Free’.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Soumini’s memory to  Amma Canada, Pictou County Food Bank or Aberdeen Health Foundation.
