Obituary of Doug Smith
Douglas Samuel “Doug” Smith, 86, Mount Willam, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Selma, he was a son of the late Emma Smith. Doug was employed with the former Hawker Siddeley, Trenton for 24 years as a welder and for 12 years in the storeroom before retirement. He was an avid gardener who lovingly cared for his gardens and property. Doug enjoyed carpentry and working on his home. He and his wife, Barb, snowmobiled each winter for over 40 years. Doug and Barb travelled to New England and Florida many times to visit and spend vacations with his brother, John and Doris. He enjoyed spending time with his cats, Albert, Nipper and Cuddles and dog, Sheba. For 14 years, Doug cared for his feathered friend, Ralph the seagull, who faithfully visited him each day for his fresh serving of bologna. Above all, he loved his wife Barb dearly and they did everything together. Each sunset will be beautiful reminder of Doug as he often sat to watch the sun set.
