Obituary of Larry Douglas Beaton
Larry Douglas Beaton, 75, Abercrombie, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Garnet Howard and Eleanor Jean (Smith) Beaton. Even though he moved away from Springhill in his late teens to work at Hawker Siddeley, his heart always belonged to Springhill. Larry possessed a strong work ethic as demonstrated during his 30-year career with Trenton Works and several years with Maritime Steel from where he retired. His earthly “paradise” was Five Islands, where he shared his love for fishing, clam digging and camping with his daughters and grandchildren (and all their friends). Hunting was his Fall sport, where he spent countless hours travelling throughout the forest, a passion he sought to pass down to his family. Larry loved and adored his late wife, Debra, they shared over 30 wonderful years until her passing in 2022. Together they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, finding comfort in routine. When Debbie died, his fur pal, Bruce, came into his life, helping him find purpose after her passing. His family are comforted knowing he has been reunited with those he loved. Larry’s life was spent caring and providing for his family, making sure they knew he loved them. Larry leaves a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Surviving are his daughters, Sonya (Brad), Tanya (Tony), Jennifer (Murray), Heather and Meagan; grandchildren, Nick, Jessica, Bradley, Bradisha, Jaiden, Mitchell, Maiah, Kaleb, Kaber, Logan, AJ, Ryder, Bauer and Carmen; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Zyniah; sisters, Beverly and Audrey (Ron); brother, John (Kathy); several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Debra.
The family will receive visitors 11 – 11:50 a.m. Saturday, May 2 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel from where funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will follow in Abercrombie cemetery.
Donations may be made in Larry’s memory to the Abercrombie Volunteer Fire Department.
Larry’s family wish to thank his caregiver, Kathy Rogers, Pictou County VON and the Aberdeen Hospital staff for the care he received and to Len Smith for being a true friend.
