Obituary of Heather Elaine Bushulak
With profound love and deep sadness, the family of Heather Elaine Bushulak announces her passing on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, surrounded by family. Born June 18, 1951, Heather lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, and unwavering generosity. Even in her final act, she continued giving by donating her body to science, a testament to her lifelong desire to help others.
Heather was the beloved daughter of the late Harold and Lois MacPhee, whose values of love, faith, and service she carried throughout her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Douglas, with whom she shared a love story that began when she was just 18. Together, they built a family rooted in loyalty, laughter, and deep affection. Heather leaves behind her cherished sons, Dougie (Dana) and Robin (Lisa), and her treasured grandchildren, Keegan and Braden, who were the light of her life.
She is also survived by her siblings, Kathy, Marlene (Vernon), Barb (Joby), Michelle (Darrell), and Gordon (Terri‑Lynn); her sister‑in‑law, Brenda; and brothers‑in‑laws, Brian Fraser, Robbie Bushulak, and Arnie (Gail) Bushulak.
She was predeceased by her sister, Jessie; brother David, nephew, Raymond; niece, Kimberly; brother‑in‑law, Conrad; and her beloved Mom and Dad Bushulak.
Heather spent most of her career as a dedicated bookkeeper at Bow River Lodge, where she worked until her retirement. In 2016, she returned home to Nova Scotia to be closer to her family, bringing with her the same warmth, humour, and gentle spirit that had touched so many throughout her life.
Family was always at the center of Heather’s world. She spent countless hours in hockey rinks cheering on her boys and later her grandchildren, her pride unmistakable and her support unwavering. Summers were spent at the ballfield—watching, coaching, encouraging, and celebrating the people she loved most.
Heather had a remarkable gift: after a conversation with her, you simply felt better. She offered love without judgment, compassion without hesitation, and faith that radiated through every interaction. Her involvement in Cursillo was a source of pride and joy, and she carried its teachings with her always.
Her greatest devotion was to her family and to the people whose lives she touched with her kindness. Mother’s Day was her favourite holiday, making it especially meaningful that her Celebration of Life will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2026 in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 35, Westville.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Schnare and the nurses who cared for Heather with such compassion and gentleness, providing comfort and dignity during her final days.
Heather’s legacy is one of generosity, gentleness, and a heart open to all. She will be remembered not only for the love she gave, but for the way she made everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for.
Her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched.
Lovingly submitted by family.
