Obituary of Carl Gibson Herman Berglund

Carl Gibson Herman Berglund, 74, Westville, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax with his family by his side, after a brief illness.

Born in Port Arthur, Ont., he was a son of the late Edgar Herman and Beulah Elizabeth (Wells) Berglund. Prior to retirement, Carl was the Personal Banking Manager at TD Bank, New Glasgow and had previously worked for other TD Branches for 35 plus years. Carl was an avid golfer, having a lifetime record of three holes-in-one, two at Abercrombie Golf Club and one at Glen Lovat Golf Club. He thoroughly enjoyed bowling, initially with the banker’s league and the current Wednesday Night Bowling League, a path that led him to the love of his life, Mae. Every Friday night was “date night” for Carl and Mae. He will be remembered for his gifts of flowers to Mae and her traveling companions, every time he picked them up at the airport or other locations, following her many trips. Each New Years, he donned his chauffeur hat and escorted Mae and friends to the many levees in the county. Carl will be remembered for saying, “yes dear” and “looking for a good time”. He possessed a quick wit and wonderful sense of humour. One of his bowling friends said, “it was fun to watch Carl loosen up and start to become more “playful”, shall we say. He was quick to tease, quick to heckle, but, in a very fun way. I will miss that handshake when we always started the first string when playing with each other. Carl always said, “good game chief”.”  He will be fondly remembered as Mae’s Mr. Wonderful.

Surviving are his wife of 30 plus years, Mae Ormrod; daughter, Ginger Marie King and her children, Vivian and Leif, North Vancouver, B.C.; son, Carl Edgar Berglund (Leslie Matthews), Dartmouth; stepson, Matthew Munroe (Sandy) Ormrod and their son, Dretyn, Airdrie, Alta.; sisters, Diane Bernard, Windsor; Darlene (Perry) Hiltz, Debbie (Layton) Hollis, Melinda (Michael) Sampson and Sonji (Gary) Arseneau, Eastern Passage; brothers, Dennis (Sharon) Berglund, Rodney Berglund, Larry (Pauline) Berglund, Shawn (Debbie) Berglund and Jody (Marley) Berglund, Eastern Passage; sisters-in-law, Shirley Gray, Hopewell and Susan (Nick) Halfyard, Pictou Landing; brothers-in-law, Alexander (Evelyn) MacKenzie and Louie (Julie) MacKenzie, Pictou Landing; many nieces and nephews.
