Obituary of Patrick Joseph Roach

 

Patrick “Pat” Joseph Roach, 91, New Glasgow,  passed away July 6, 2026.

 

He was born in Yarmouth, March 17, 1935, the son of William and Henrietta (LeBlanc) Roach. Pat was the youngest of 16 brothers and sisters. At the age of 12, using his mothers skates, he began what turned out to be a lifetime of skating, which was the highlight of his life, skating into his 80’s. He was a well known instructor and skate sharpener, having taught from one end of Nova Scotia to the other, most of his adult life. As a student , he received many skating awards, but in he was honored to receive the Sports Hall of Fame Award for his many accomplishments in the skating world. Pat had a long bookkeeping/ accounting, income tax career, some excellent jobs, but being self-employed gave him more freedom for his many passions: skating, motor biking, calligraphy, dancing, music-loves the harmonica, photography, wood and leather carving, etc.

 

He his survived by his brother James, Dartmouth; nephew, Patrick (Kelly), Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews and  by his many friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his ten brothers and four sisters.

 

Cremations has taken place. A private graveside service will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to  P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home.

 

A very special thank you to the staff at Glen Haven Manor and the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their excellent care of Pat.
