Obituary of Richard Willis Margeson

NEW GLASGOW - Richard Willis Margeson, 82, New Glasgow, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Paul Archibald and Etta Mae (Cotter) Margeson. Richard was a well-known barber in New Glasgow, operating Margeson’s Barbershop for 61 years and was a member of the Nova Scotia Registered Barbers Association. He was a member of First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow, where he had served as a Deacon and on the Board of Management. In earlier years, Richard was involved in Scouting. Richard enjoyed dancing, skating and walking. He and his wife, Barb, enjoyed many memorable bus tours throughout the eastern and southern parts of the United States; trips to Graceland were his favourite. Richard took pride in all his endeavours, looking after his property and keeping his vehicles immaculate. He was lovingly known as “Poke” to his seven grandchildren who he deeply loved and shared a special bond. The loss of their darling grandfather will be felt deeply. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, who will be dearly missed by those he loved. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Barbara Margeson; daughter, Alison (Jim) Doyle, Tatamagouche; son, Wayne (Carmel) Margeson, Caribou Island/New Glasgow; Stephen (Ellen) Margeson, Springville; grandchildren, Stephanie, Tara, Conor (Erika), Marshal and Thomas Margeson; Katherine and Kevin Doyle; sisters, Jean MacKinnon and Adeline Smith, New Glasgow; Ida (Jim) O’Brien, Westville; brothers, Reg (Reolla) Margeson, Kingston; Ted Margeson, King’s Head; Louie (Kathy) Margeson, Fredericton, N.B.; sisters-in-law, Marie Margeson, New Glasgow; Dorothy Margeson, Cochrane, Alta; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Doug and Ross; nephews, Glen and Aaron; brother-in-law, Daniel MacKinnon. The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Gordon Sutherland officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Richard’s memory to the Parkinson Society Maritime Region or First United Baptist Church.
