Obituary of Bertha Eileen Howard
STELLARTON - Bertha Eileen Howard, 92, Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, formerly of Stellarton and MacLellan’s Brook, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 in the home, surrounded by her family.
Born in Stellarton, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Stephen and Mary Catherine (Cornett) Whytewood. Bertha worked in various vocations through out Pictou County: Steel Furnishing, Aberdeen Hospital, Quality Cleaners and Woolworths. She was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton and an associate member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28, Stellarton. Bertha was a past president of the LOBA and New Glasgow Lionettes, served as secretary for Canadian Council of the Blind, New Glasgow and for Sir Arthur Pearson Association of War Blinded, Maritime Division. Her time spent with family and friends at the cottage in Lochaber, and traveling was greatly enjoyed. Bertha was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who dearly loved her family.
Surviving are daughters, Marion (Allan) Young, Quispamsis, N.B.; Heather (Gerard) Robichaud, Lyons Brook; Brenda (Barry) Hartling, Eden Lake; sons, James “Jim” (Joyce), Park Falls; Robert (Brenda), Maccan; Brian (Dawn), Glenelg; sisters, Marion Cummings, New Glasgow; Gladys MacKenzie, Riverton; Isabel Lowe, New Glasgow; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cpl. Robert Samuel “Bob” Howard; infant daughter, Linda Marie; a sister and a brother infancy; brothers-in-law, Dorman Cummings, James MacKenzie and Clifford Lowe.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 7th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 8th in Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton with Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Anglican Cemetery.
