Obituary of James Hugh MacDonald
LISMORE – James Hugh “Sunny” MacDonald, 70, Lismore, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013.
Born on April 11, 1943 in Antigonish, he was a son of the late James Roderick and Marie Alfreda (de Coste) MacDonald. Sunny was an Industrial Millwright and a member of Millwright Local 1178. He was a fisherman and captain of the fishing vessels April Dawn #1 and April Again. Sunny was a longstanding member of various fishing organizations. He was a member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Zone 5 since its inception in 1979. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Marie (Hadley, RN); daughter, Janice MacDonald and granddaughter, Lilli Laine, Lismore; son, Jason (Georda), Lismore; sisters, Lois MacDonald, New Glasgow; Jean Cloutier, Stellarton; brothers, John F. “Frannie” (Elizabeth), Jerome (Frances), Bailey’s Brook; mother-in-law, Florence Hadley and sister-in-law, Doreen, Hadleyville; brother-in-law, David, Bridgewater; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Ralph; brother-in-law, Jerry Cloutier; godson, Kenzie Beaton.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 29 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30 in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding.
