Obituary of Donald Joseph MacEachern
LISMORE – Donald Joseph “Donnie” MacEachern, 64, Lismore, passed away, Thursday, May 7, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late John Hugh and Emily (Mason) MacEachern. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. In the early sixties, Donnie was employed with Volvo Canada, later becoming a high-tower linesman in Northern B.C. and Manitoba. During this period, he was proud to have obtained a fixed wing pilot certification. In the seventies while working construction as a millwright/welder, he purchased fishing gear, began farming, while volunteering to assist future tradespeople. Working as a fisherman, he was proud to fish the Northumberland Strait in the Lester B and the Donna Rose. He had a keen interest in genealogy, always proud of his Scots heritage, which is traced to the late eighteenth century. Donnie was instrumental in the formation of the family aquaculture business, Dartek. He was proud to assist his sons in the development of Stark International and Ashcroft Inc. He was equally proud of his daughter’s accomplishments. His grandchildren will fondly remember, “Grampie loves”.
Surviving are his wife, Rose (James) MacEachern; daughter, Donna (Glen) MacLean, Truro; sons, Scott (Lisa), Doug (Krista), Bailey’s Brook; brothers, Hugh (Carol), Edward “Eddie”, Dartmouth; sister, Marilyn (Wayne) Presley, Fall River; grandchildren, Emily, Zoe, Danielle, Sasha, Thomas, Vaughn, Rene and Grace; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Dougie.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday, May 10th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 11th in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Colin MacKinnon presiding. Internment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lismore.
