Obituary of Ralph Joseph Bond
NEW GLASGOW – Ralph Joseph Bond, 82, New Glasgow formerly of Walkerville, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax.
Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Mark and Mary (Snow) Bond. Prior to retirement, he had been employed as a welder with the former Hawker Siddeley for over 40 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow and had willingly served in various capacities within the local Catholic community. He was a long-time member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1667, New Glasgow. Ralph was a graceful dancer, never missing the Sunday night Hootenanny at the Stellarton Legion. He enjoyed camping, ice fishing, skating and listening to country music, especially Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. Ralph possessed a strong faith and believed that life only changes; it does not end.
Surviving are daughters, Donna Bond, Halifax; Valerie Bond, Walkerville; Dene Bond (Allan Chapman), Chance Harbour; sons, Sterling (Saundra Cochrane), Hillside; Kirk (Kathleen), Amherst, Ohio; sister, Loretta “Lolly” Bond (Charles Conway), Walkerville; brother, Malcolm “Mac” Bond, Walkerville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Jerome “Dino” Bond; granddaughter, Amanda Cochrane; sisters, Leona Pellerine, Nora Cheeke, Shirley Young and Rita Barkhouse; brother, Donald Bond.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7th in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Spring interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow.
