Obituary of George Ross Simms
KENZIEVILLE – George Ross Simms, 69, Kenzieville, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 5, 2021, at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Stanley Ross and Lillian Isabel (Wright) Simms. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a Millwright with Northern Pulp for 30 years. He enjoyed motorcycling, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, horse pulls, driving stock car and being “Friday Night George” at the campground. George was an avid hunter and fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed time spent at his camp at Ocean Lake. To his friends and family, he was “Big George”, a strong man who possessed a “heart of gold”. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Doris Elizabeth (O’Laney); children, Tracey Simms-Green (Charles Green), Sunnybrae; George (Amanda) Simms, MacPherson’s Mills; Erin Simms (Craig Sharpe), Sunnybrae; grandchildren, Hayley, Kelsey, Noah, Kyle, Kaden and Carson; siblings, Lori (Danny) Sangster, New Harbour; John (Edna) Simms, New Harbour; Susan Gerrior, Westville; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Rebecca in infancy, Sherry Burke and Joanne Sheehan; several in-laws.
A private funeral service will be held in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gail Johnson Murdock officiating.
