I want to send my condolences to the Martin family for the passing of John Kay. I just came across the obituary online. I am the same age as John and grew up in Stellarton with John and Owen as friends. I sometimes go back in time and remember a great family.

Dear Margaret and Family, Our sincere condolences. My father, Irving, is shaken by John’s passing. He held John in high esteem and has told me many times how John was a gentleman of great character and kindness. Not having seen John since High School , I am not surprised by the great mark he has made in Stellarton. His modest, kind manner always distinguished him as a respectable, caring man. God Bless. John was always kind , witty and determined , maybe even stubborn at times. That determination got him through these last years. He was quick to help others and offered me safe advice when I lost my home to a fire a few years ago. Helping cane naturally to him. As I think of your loss I am reminded of my grandmothers words, “ to love deeply means to one day have great loss” . Each of you were privileged to call John “ yours”, the rest of us were privileged to have met him. The loss is a great one but your memories and love is greater. Thinking of you all, ~ Kim Slack

John Kay and the Martin family were a big part of my life when we were neighbours on Claremont Ave. I have many fond memories of all the things we did during those very young years. We all went through school together and had great times at the hockey games during high school years. I remember John Kay as a very kind and gentle guy. He has lived a full and happy life with his many friends and loving family. I know you will miss him greatly, but knowing that others are holding you in their prayers, may this help to comfort you in the difficult days ahead.
