Born on MacLellan’s Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (Fraser) MacDonald. Mildred attended the former MacLellan’s Mountain School and New Glasgow High School. Upon graduation, she began working as a housekeeper for the late Dr. MacMillan, who recognized her potential and encouraged Mildred to enrol in the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing from where she graduated in 1942. MacDonald were instrumental in the development and operation of the Aberdeen Hospital diabetic clinic, where she served as head nurse for many years. She was an active member of the Aberdeen Hospital Alumni. Not having children of their own, Mildred and Winse took great interest in their 18 nieces and nephews, always ready to lend a helping hand. She helped immeasurably with the care of her grandmother, Catherine MacDonald and her parents in their later years. Mildred enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land, Europe, Vancouver and her many winter visits to Florida.
