Obituary of Reginald Carey Purdy

NEW GLASGOW – Reginald Carey “Reg” Purdy, 87, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born in Dartmouth, he was the son of the late Horace Winston and Olive (Staples) Purdy. Reg attended St. F.X. University, Antigonish (BA 51’) and upon graduation was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Public Welfare. While working in Halifax, he earned his Master of Social Work degree. At the time of his retirement, Reg was a Regional Administrator with the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Clare, to many global locations. They were particularly fond of time spent in Barbados. He was an avid reader, curler and skater. Reg was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who always put his family before himself. Surviving are his wife, Clare; daughter, Jane, New Glasgow; sons, Kirk (Paula), Maine, USA and their sons, Geoffrey, Ethan and Alex; Garth, Summerland, B.C. and his daughter, Solana. The family will receive visitors 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3rd in P & K MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held in the chapel 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec 4th with Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at a later date.
