Obituary of Betty Yates
NEW GLASGOW – Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Yates, RN, 83, New Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family.
Born in Ogden, Guysborough county, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Alfred and Marie Janet (Lawlor) Rehill. Betty was employed as a Registered Nurse for 47 years, having spent most of her career at the Aberdeen Hospital along with several years at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Sheet Harbour. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Glasgow. In earlier years, Betty had been a volunteer with the Pictou County SPCA and Canadian Cancer Society. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, skating and bowling. For Betty, “life has changed; not ended!”
Surviving are daughter, Lynn Humphreys, Bedford; son, Brian (Anneke) Yates, Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren, Brendan and Rebecca Humphreys, Tea, Annelies and Johnny Yates; sister, Dorothy “Dot” MacDonald, Linacy; brother, Jack (Kay) Rehill, New Glasgow; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Frank Yates; two brothers in infancy; brother-in-law, Frank MacDonald.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes a Family Mass will be held.
