Obituary of Joyce Cooke
THORBURN – Kathryn Joyce Cooke RN, 59, Thorburn, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Saturday, March 17, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of Jean (Cameron) and the late John Rhyno. She enjoyed her work as a psychiatric nurse in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow where she was employed for 26 years. Joyce lived life to the fullest and took pleasure in music and her travel adventures. She loved her family and friends; her pride and joy were her grandchildren. Joyce was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, where she sang in the choir. She volunteered with The Tearman House and New Hope, New Glasgow. Joyce found strength and solidarity in her association and participation with Women Alike Abreast A River Dragon Boat Team.
Surviving are her loving husband of 25 years, Mike; daughters, Susan (Chad) Walker, Toronto, Ont; Joanna (Terry) Kirk, Thorburn; and Janet Warrington, Montreal; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Aaron Walker; Selene Kirk; brothers, James Rhyno, New Glasgow; Ian (Margie) Rhyno, MacLellan’s Brook; Arthur (Laurie) Rhyno, Essex, Ont; Colin (Debbie) Rhyno, Long Island, NY; Mother-in-law, Beatrice (Leamon) Ryan, Trenton.
Besides her father, she was predeceased by her brother, Douglas Rhyno and father-in-law, William Cooke.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 20th in P. & K MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 21st in Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to the Women Alike Abreast A River Dragon Boat Team.
