Obituary of David Edwin Coleman

NEW GLASGOW – David Edwin “Dave” Coleman, 89, Northumberland Veterans Unit, Sutherland Harris Memorial, Pictou, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2014. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Harold and Violet (Whelpley) Coleman. During the Second World War, Dave served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, #102 Marine Squadron from 1942-1946. Upon discharge, he became a machinist and a tool and die maker. Moved to New Glasgow in 1948 and was employed for 38 years with a local machine shop. Dave was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow and a member of Euclid Lodge, A.F. & A.M. No. 92, New Glasgow for over 55 years. He enjoyed spending time at home, working in his workshop, listing to music and being with his family. Dave enjoyed a challenge and was always fixing anything and everything for family and friends. He was a loving husband, devoted father and adoring “pup” to his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Kathleen “Kay”, Abercrombie; daughter, Deborah (Dr. Michael) Glasgow and their children, Alex, Kathleen and Elizabeth, Tatamagouche; sons, Mark (Mary-Frances) Coleman and their children, Ian and Meghan, Bedford; Glen (Tabitha) Coleman and their children, Ben and Abby, New Glasgow; brother, Harold (Lorraine) Coleman, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Jean Coleman and Dorothy MacDonald. In honour of Dave’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will be in Abercrombie Cemetery. The Coleman family wish to express their appreciation to the Veterans Unit nursing staff, Dennis, D’Arcy and Dr. Cooper for the excellent care David received. Donations may be made in Dave’s memory to Northumberland Veterans Comfort Fund, P.O. Box 1059, Pictou, NS B0K 1H0. Arrangements are entrusted to P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
