Obituary of Daniel Olsten

BILLERICA, MASS. - Daniel H. Olsten, 49, Billerica, Mass., passed away, Friday, April 12, surrounded by his family after a yearlong battle with cancer. Born in Burlington, Ont., he was a son of Suzanne and James Olsten, Vancouver Island, B.C., and the late Wolfgang Krause. At the age of 11 he moved with his family to Green Hill, where he attended West Pictou District High School and met his future wife, Vivian (James). After attending Acadia University, he and Vivian married and moved to Billerica. He later continued his education and graduated from Boston University (MBA 07’). Dan began his career in healthcare, starting as Specialty Administrator of Internal Medicine, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Newton. Then he accepted the position of Chief Delivery System Officer with Martin’s Point Healthcare, Portland, Maine. In 2010 he formed Olsten Consulting, attracting well respected clients which included: Children’s Hospital and Pinacle Rehabilitation Network. Dan became an accomplished executive, realizing early that his vocation was a calling that afforded him the privilege of helping many people. Dan was a proud and supportive father, who always put his family first. An extremely self-motivated person, Dan was always working to improve his home, inside and out. He took pleasure in traveling abroad, listening to music and playing the guitar. Each year he looked forward to vacationing in Aruba or White Point Beach with his family and close friends. He enjoyed attending his daughters dance recitals and his son’s hockey games. An avid sports fan, he relished a competitive game of volleyball or proudly supporting his Red Sox. As a husband, father, uncle and friend, he loved immensely and freely. He and Vivian were inseparable and after 27 years of marriage their bond of love will remain, for life may change but it does not end. A person of faith, Dan began his eternal journey with confidence and at peace.
