Obituary of Rebecca Bryan

Rebecca (Becky) Bryan, age 92, of Glen Haven Manor, formally of North Sydney, passed away on July 14, 216. She was a devoted wife to Ernie for 47 years before his death in 1995. Born in Harbour Mille, NL, she was a daughter of the late George and Josephine (Pardy) Vardy. Becky is survived by her loving family, son Carl Alana) Bryan, New Glasgow; daughter Brenda Bryan, Portland, Oregon; granddaughter Deana Bryan (Tracy King), Windsor Junction; and her three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Robyn and Kendyl MacDonald. Becky is fondly remembered by sister Olive (John) Poole, Enfield, and brother Wallace Vardy, Grand Falls, NL, as well as all who knew her and were touched by her caring ways and mischievous sense of humour. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Becky, spent time laughing and left smiling. She came to North Sydney to work at the home of John C. MacMillan in 1935, where she met the love of her life Ernie, who worked at the lumber yard there. Becky also worked on the Marine Atlantic Ferry before spending many years with the Cape Breton Regional School Board where she retired. She was known to be a very hard worker and took great pride in her work and her beautiful home on Campbell Street. Her baking as award winning, and recipes will be cherished by her family. Becky and Ernie were active and honoured parishioners at St, John’s Anglican Church during their time in North Sydney. Along with Ernie and her parents, Becky was predeceased by sisters Frances Cameron, Ida Penney, Blanche Freebourne, and Laura Barnes, and brothers William, Herbert, Clyde and Berkley Vardy. Becky received wonderful care by staff at Glen Haven Manor prior to her death which is appreciated by her family. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16, at 4:00 p. m. in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
