Obituary of Jean Marie Meagher
RIVERTON - Jean Marie Meagher, 73, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Frankville passed away peacefully, Friday, March 29, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late John Alexander and Rose Elizabeth (Gardiner) MacAskill. Jean was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as “Nanny Jean”. Her sense of humor, quick wit, brilliant smile and twinkling blue eyes will not be forgotten. Jean’s tender heart and kindness will be her enduring legacy.
Surviving are her children, David (Lana) Meagher, Halifax; Debbie (Gerard) DeCoste, Fort McMurray, Alta.; Cheryl (Mark) Thompson, Oshawa, Ont.; Janine Meagher (Leonard), Fort McMurray; Shelley MacNeil, Fort McMurray; former husband, Stanley Meagher, Murray Corner, N.B.; grandchildren, Andrea, Keegan, Amanda, Evan, Lindsay, Alex, Riley, David, Carly and Heather; great-grandchildren, Clara, Carter, Tiyana, Ma’kayah, Presley, Marlee and Rizlea; sisters, Helen (Marcel) LaSalle, Stellarton; Dolena Beliwicz, Barrie, Ont.; brothers, Edward “Eddie” (Debbie) MacAskill, Frankville; Charles “Chuck” (Eloise) MacAskill, Toronto; Anthony Hutton, Frankville; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by foster parents, Alphonsus and Josephine O’Neill; granddaughter, Navi; son-in-law, Foster MacNeil; sisters, Tina Reid, Shirley Hodder, Mary Cadman and Katherine “Kaye” Drake; brothers, Ronald “Ronnie” MacAskill, Donald “Donnie” MacAskill, John “Junior” MacAskill; Alexander “Alex” MacAskill and Bernie Hutton.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 1st in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2nd in the chapel with Mr. Stan Allan officiating.
