Obituary of Alexander Grant Ross
AVONDALE – Alexander Grant Ross, 88, Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, formerly of Avondale, passed away, Friday, February 4, 2011 in the Home.
Born in Thorburn, he was the only son of Collingwood Grant and Mary (Sim) Ross. He was a member of Barney’s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville. He served with The Royal Canadian Engineers and the 21st British Army Group during the Second World War. Upon return from overseas, he was employed in farming, logging, trucking and Christmas tree exporting.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma Gertrude (Mason); daughters, Beth MacDonald, Adele MacLeod, Lois (Kevin) Thompson, all of Avondale; Vera Ross, Toronto; son, Robert (Wendy), Barney’s River Station; sister, Amelia Fraser, Sutherland’s River; Nova Bannerman, Barney’s River Station; Margaret “Peggy” (Elmer) Williams, Barney’s River Station; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter Mary Lee Mason; sister, Vera Stewart.
There will visitation for family 11 a.m. - 112 noon Sunday, Feb.6th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A private family service will follow in Hattie`s Cemetery, Avondale with granddaughter, LCdr. Bonnie Mason officiating.
Donations may be made in Grant’s memory to Hatties Cemetery or any charity of choice.
