It was about 1959. I was often around the Smith's home. My great grandparents used to live there and sister Marie was often at our home. On the back verandah, Butchie held up a transistor radio and said listen to this, " ....when ever I want you all I have to do is dream" the Everley Brothers singing close harmonies. A light went on - there's music on CKEC that is great and this is a new world of teenage. Seeing that Butch was a music guy all his life made me tell this story. He opened my ears. Eventually I got a guitar and never stopped. We met once in the 1980's and he spoke of having been in the US Services at the time of the Cuban Missle Crisis. He went right back to the collective memory the US Service people felt of "this could be it."

Dear Family, we have many fond memories of our great times together during the early 70's with Butch when I [Brenda] first moved to New Glasgow from Moncton. We didn't see Butch much over the years but whenever we ran into each other we always had a good conversation and a great laugh. Our love and prayers go to all his family at this time and in the days ahead.May God bless you with comfort and great memories.B&B
