Obituary of Thomas Daniel Hayden

ABERCROMBIE – Thomas Daniel “Tom” Hayden, 78, Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home, Sheet Harbour, formerly of Abercrombie, passed away, Sunday, May 10, 2009, in the nursing home. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late George and Katherine Hayden. Prior to retirement he was employed as a millwright at the former Hawker Siddeley, Trenton. He was a long-time member of the Abercrombie Community Center. In earlier years, he played hockey for the Abercrombie Aces. Tom was well known as a hockey and baseball coach, as well as a hockey referee. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and dart player. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Surviving are his daughter, Barb (Richard) MacGrath, New Glasgow; son, Scott (Florence) Hayden, Stellarton; grandchildren, Mandi Wilson, West Locke, Alta.; Matthew MacGrath, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Chantelle and Jenelle Walsh, Stellarton; sisters, Isabel (Donnie) MacDonald, New Glasgow; brothers, Bert Hayden, Westville; Jack (Marion) Hayden, Plymouth; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel Betty (MacLeod) Hayden; sisters, Mabel Hayden and Katherine MacLeod. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7- 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 12th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13th in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Abercrombie Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Tom’s memory to the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame or the QE II Foundation.
