Obituary of Mary Jo-anne MacKinnon
LOWER BARNEY’S RIVER – Mary Jo-anne “Mare Bear” MacKinnon, 61, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Lower Barney’s River, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021, in the manor with her daughter by her side.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Alexander Harris and Jessie Annabel (Lavers) Robertson. She had been employed in quality control for several fish processing plants along with being a wonderful home maker. Mary enjoyed baking, and was most happy sitting down with family and friends, eating fresh biscuits and cinnamon rolls, and having a long chat. She possessed a “huge heart” and greatly enjoyed making huge meals and having a house full of people to enjoy it. Mary was well loved for her hospitality. She enjoyed taking drives and exploring nature with her late husband, John, whom she dearly missed following his death in December 2020. Like the eagles, she and John were true soulmates, who now have been reunited.
Surviving are her daughter, Jennifer MacKinnon (Steven), Lower Barney’s River; son, Ivan MacKinnon, Truro; sister, Sandra (Stephen) Cameron, Lower Barney’s River; aunts, Mary Simpson, Lower Barney’s River; Pam Bailey, Truro; Ruby Tymo, Alberta; uncles, Alfred Macumber, Toronto, Ont.; John (Laura) Macumber, Mt. William; Pat Evans, Calgary, Alta.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, John Robert “Chuckie” MacKinnon; sister, Ida Caroline in infancy; many aunts and uncles; a cousin.
In honour of Mary’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.
